Equipment and surfaces in outdoor early learning space

Equipment with slides and sliders is not placed with at least six feet, the CPSC required fall zone between equipment. Holes in the purple caterpillar tunnel exceed more than 3.5 inches and are an entrapment hazard per CPSC guidelines Wood chips were just installed in July. However, they are six inches deep, rather than the required 9 inches.

Two toddlers were in care today. Older children were playing with Legos and the toddlers were present. Most of these legos present as choking hazards because they are less thatn one and three quarter inches.

It is not reviewed with parents or guardians when a child is enrolled and when the plan is updated. It does not include an evacuation floor plan that identifies room numbers or names of rooms, emergency exit pathways, emergency exit doors, and emergency exit windows for family-home based programs as described in WAC ; 51-51-0326 It does not describe methods to be used for sounding an alarm and calling 911. It does not note where the alternate evacuation location is. It does not state that individual children's medication, if applicable, will be taken when evacuating. It does not include public safety related lockdown scenarios where an individual at or near an early learning program is harming or attempting to harm others with or without a weapon. This plan must include lockdown of the early learning program or shelter-in-place steps including: (i) How doors and windows will be secured to prevent access, if needed; and (ii) Where children will safely stay inside the early learning program. (d) How parents or guardians will be able to contact the early learning program; and (ix) How children will be reunited with their parents or guardians after the event. The provider states she keeps on the premises "two to three bottles of water" for children for emergency purposes but this is not the 1.5 - 2 gallon per person recommendation of the American Red Cross and FEMA. The provider has not completed an earthquake, shelter in place or lockdown drill in more than three months. The provider reports she completed an August fire drill but did not record it on the DCYF form.
