Outside on the South toddler playground there were weeds coming out of the wood chips. The weeds have very sharp edges posing a possible safety hazard. On the North playground there were 2 large areas of green/brown standing water posing a possible safety hazard.
Required correction: All outdoor play areas used for children’s activities must be checked daily and kept safe and free from hazardous materials or debris by removal of debris, dilapidated structures, and broken or worn play equipment. The staff must identify hazardous, high-risk areas; those areas must be made inaccessible to children to reduce the possibility of injuries and accidents. In the Oak classroom Licensing Specialists observed a toddler child under the age of 3 wearing a chew necklace. The clasp on the necklace is a possible choking hazard. Also outside on the North playground there were several small pieces of green pool noddles laying on the ground posing a possible choking hazard to children under the age of 3 years old.
Required correction: Toys, toy parts, furnishings, equipment, and any materials accessible to children under than three (3) years of age must not be a choke hazard or able to be inhaled. Any area of the facility accessible to children less than three (3) years of age must be free of any choke or inhalation hazards. In the Maple classroom there was a red and yellow soft climbing block that had torn edges. The red and yellow covering was peeling off at the edges and posing a safety hazard. Also, in the Maple classroom there was a blue balance bean laying on the ground and one of the corners were missing posing a safety hazard.
Required correction: All indoor materials and equipment including the red and yellow soft climbing block and the blue blance beam must be sturdy, safe, and free of hazards. ***Corrected at the time of the visit the director places tape over the torn edges and disposed of the blue balance beam.
