What we found

Logan Square has transformed dramatically over the past decade. What was once known primarily for its artist community and nightlife has become one of Chicago's fastest-growing family neighborhoods. The iconic boulevard system, the 606 trail, and the neighborhood's walkable restaurants and shops attract young families who want urban living without leaving for the suburbs. Childcare here is catching up to the population shift, with new programs opening alongside established community providers.

The provider mix is eclectic: you'll find bilingual programs (English-Spanish), Montessori schools, creative arts-focused preschools, church-affiliated programs, and licensed home daycares. The neighborhood's proximity to Wicker Park and Bucktown means families can search all three areas as a single effective market.

What Childcare Costs in Logan Square

Logan Square childcare runs $1,400 to $2,600 per month for full-time care. Center-based infant care costs $1,900 to $2,600. Toddler and preschool rates range from $1,400 to $2,200. Home daycares are typically $1,200 to $1,800. Logan Square pricing is comparable to Wicker Park and slightly below Lincoln Park.

The Waitlist Reality

Logan Square's growing family population means increasing demand. Waitlists run 4 to 9 months for infant care at established programs. Newer centers have shorter waits. Bilingual programs are particularly competitive - families from across the northwest side seek them out. For fall preschool enrollment, apply by the preceding winter.

What to Watch For

  • Bilingual programs. Logan Square has a strong Spanish-speaking community and several bilingual childcare options. If bilingual education matters, this is one of Chicago's best neighborhoods for it.
  • Logan Square vs. Wicker Park vs. Bucktown. These three neighborhoods share borders and a similar demographic. Searching all three gives you the widest range of options on the northwest side.
  • Neighborhood change. Logan Square is still evolving. New programs open regularly, but some established community providers have been displaced by rising rents. Check the longevity and stability of any program you're considering.
  • Illinois DCFS licensing. All Logan Square providers operate under Illinois DCFS regulations. Licensing records are reflected in our scoring.
