Bellevue is the Eastside's childcare hub. With the largest population, the most employers, and the highest concentration of young families on the east side of Lake Washington, Bellevue has more childcare providers than any other Eastside city. That scale creates genuine choice — you can find corporate-adjacent centers designed for tech workers, traditional Montessori programs, Mandarin and Spanish immersion schools, and home daycares in every residential pocket of the city.

The flip side of Bellevue's scale is competition. Tech industry salaries have driven up childcare prices across the Eastside, and the most sought-after programs — especially those near major employers — maintain waitlists that rival anything in Seattle proper.

What Childcare Costs in Bellevue

Bellevue childcare runs $1,800 to $3,000 per month for full-time care. Center-based infant care is at the high end: $2,400 to $3,000. Toddler and preschool rates at centers range from $1,800 to $2,500. Home daycares are typically $1,600 to $2,200. Bilingual and immersion programs often carry a premium of $200–$400 per month over comparable English-only programs. Some employers (Microsoft, Meta, Amazon) offer childcare subsidies or backup care benefits that can offset these costs.

The Waitlist Reality

Bellevue's most popular programs maintain 6 to 12 month waitlists for all age groups. Programs near corporate campuses (especially in the Spring District and downtown Bellevue) are the most competitive. East Bellevue and residential neighborhoods like Crossroads and Factoria have somewhat shorter waits. For infant care, starting your search during pregnancy is standard.

What to Watch For

• Employer benefits. Before you start searching, check what your employer offers. Several Eastside companies subsidize childcare, offer backup care, or have partnerships with specific providers. This can meaningfully change which programs make financial sense.
• Bilingual programs. Bellevue has strong Mandarin, Spanish, and Japanese immersion options. If bilingual education is a priority, Bellevue has more choices than any other Eastside city. Quality varies — look for programs where immersion is built into the daily schedule, not just a weekly class.
• Commute planning. Bellevue traffic is real. A program near your office may be better than one near home if it eliminates a cross-city drive at rush hour. Think through the full commute, including drop-off and pickup, before choosing a location.
• Bellevue vs. Kirkland vs. Redmond. These cities blend into each other, and many families search across all three. If a Bellevue program has a long waitlist, check Kirkland (especially Totem Lake and Juanita) or west Redmond.
