What we found

Dilworth is Charlotte's quintessential family neighborhood. Tree-lined streets, bungalows, East Boulevard's shops and restaurants, and Latta Park at the center. Families have been raising kids here for generations, and the childcare landscape reflects that depth. Programs in Dilworth tend to be established, community-rooted, and hard to get into.

The provider mix is distinctive. Dilworth has one of Charlotte's strongest concentrations of church-affiliated programs — Methodist, Presbyterian, and Episcopal churches that have been running preschools for 30+ years. You'll also find independent centers, Montessori programs, and a small number of licensed home daycares in the residential streets off East Boulevard.

What Childcare Costs in Dilworth

Dilworth childcare runs $1,100 to $2,000 per month for full-time care. Church-affiliated programs are often more affordable: $1,100 to $1,500, though some are 3- or 4-day programs rather than full-time. Center-based infant care runs $1,400 to $2,000. Montessori programs sit at the upper end. Home daycares in Dilworth are rare but priced at $1,200 to $1,600 when available.

The Waitlist Reality

Dilworth's established programs maintain year-round waitlists, especially for infant care. Church-based programs often prioritize church members and siblings, which makes the effective waitlist for outside families longer than advertised. Plan on 4 to 10 months for infant spots. Toddler and preschool spots turn over more frequently in August and January.

What to Watch For

  • Church-member priority. Several of Dilworth's best programs give enrollment priority to church members. If a program you love has this policy, consider attending a few services before applying — it can make a real difference.
  • Part-time vs. full-time. Some Dilworth church programs are 3-day or 4-day schedules. If you need 5-day care, confirm the schedule before getting on a waitlist. Supplementing with a nanny share on off-days is a common Dilworth pattern.
  • Parking. East Boulevard parking can be tight during drop-off. Programs on the residential side streets are easier. Ask about the morning routine and whether there's a car line.
  • Dilworth vs. Myers Park overlap. These neighborhoods are adjacent. Myers Park programs often draw Dilworth families and vice versa. Search both.
